2012 – Old Cars and Triple Digits

I woke up to the noise of my mother making coffee at six in the morning. I was up late working on a project. I will admit that saying goodbye to my best friend the night before, was very hard. I knew that I was going to miss her Birthday and we would be apart for a few months.

At nine o’ clock mom and I took off on our tip! My dad rode his bike behind us with a video camera. The first two hours was filled with beautiful scenery. Yet, all the hours after that, the view outside basically consisted of this: dirt, rocks, shrubs, dirt, red mountains, dirt, and pebbles. Oh, did I mention there was dirt? And lots of it?

Well, the temperature rose to 118 degrees and my mom and I were sitting in our own sweat since we could not turn of the air conditioning, because the car would over heat.

After a long drive we arrived at Oatman. Now, Oatman is a very neat town off of route 66. We were walking down the street and wild burros were wandering down the street. We were able to approach them and pet them. It was very cool.

I got a route 66 shot glass front he local store in Oatman. Oatman was filled with small stores. You could tell that many of the stores had been there for many years. We then drove for about another hour and a half to Kingman, where our hotel was. When we arrived in Kingman I noticed that an old car show was going on. We turned around to look at all the cool, old cars. I loved every car there! It was also cool because it was all locals that were there.

We stayed at the Spring Hill Suites. I rode my rip-stick in the parking lot for about an hour. Afterwards I went swimming for about two hours. In the time that I was swimming, a huge group of kids/teens came in. I got to hang out with them and play a sort of water polo game. I finally went to sleep around eleven at night. What an amazing first day!

Here is a video about the day we had:
